풀꽃과 더불어

아파트 베란다

난초가 죽고 난 화분에

잡초가 제풀에 돋아서

흰 고물 같은 꽃을 피웠다.

저 미미한 풀 한 포기가

영원 속의 이 시간을 차지하여

무한 속의 이 공간을 차지하여

한 떨기 꽃을 피웠다는 사실이

생각하면 생각할수록

신기하지 그지없다.

하기사 나란 존재가 역시

영원 속의 이 시간을 차지하며

무한 속의 이 공간을 차지하며

저 풀꽃과 마주한다는 사실도

생각하면 생각할수록

오묘하기 그지없다.

곰곰 그 일들을 생각하다 나는

그만 나란 존재에서 벗어나

그 풀꽃과 더불어

영원과 무한의 한 표현으로

영원과 무한의 한 부분으로

영원과 무한의 한 사랑으로

이제 여기 존재한다.

With wild flowers

In a flower-pot out on my veranda
where orchids had died off
a wild plant came up of its own accord
and produced flowers like white dust.

This single tiny plant,
occupying this moment in eternity
occupying this place in infinity:
the fact that it has born flowers,
the more I think about it,
the more it seems mysterious beyond measure.

Indeed, this being called I too,
occupying this moment in eternity
occupying this place in infinity:
the fact that I am face to face with this wild flower,
the more I think about it,
the more it too seems mysterious beyond measure.

And finally as I muse over these things I,
escaping from the being called I
and united with the wild flower

as one expression of eternity and infinity,
as one part of eternity and infinity,
as one love of eternity and infinity,

now exist here.
