An Account of the Feock Lewarne family

There is a family memory of a mysterious woman named Mona who often visited Aunt Rose at Feock in the 1940s and was said to be a relative. I have one possible candidate.

Mona Lewarne was born on 3 January 1912 and baptized at Kea on 25 March 1912
Her father was Thomas Lewarne her mother was Catherine (Woodward). They were then living at Porth Kea, her father’s profession was Waterman
Her siblings were:
Muriel Ruby Lewarne 1907 – 1998
William Thomas Lewarne 1909 – 1993
Annie Jane Lewarne 1916 - 1998
Robert Lewarne 1921 – 2006

Mona Lewarne married William Alphonso Richard Pentecost of Truro in June 1933 and had 1 child, Monica Diane Pentecost (1947-1994). William died in 1957 and Mona married Archibald Teague (born 1916) in March 1965. He died in 1979. Mona died in December 1975 in Truro

Thomas Lewarne & Catherine Woodward (from Kea) were married in March 1906 in ‘Truro’ but not in an Anglican church. Catherine died in 1953, Thomas died March 1969 in Truro

At the 1891 Census Thomas Lewarne was 7 years old, being born in 1884. He was baptized at Feock 22 February 1885.
His parents were James Lewarne (a Mariner, not present at the 1891 census) and Elizabeth (Ferris) who were married at Feock on 25 August, 1877. In 1891 they were living at Lower Trevella, with 7 children. Elizabeth Ferris was baptized at Feock on 20 November 1853.

James Lewarne was aged 6 at the Census in 1861, he was baptized 23 July 1854 at Feock.
He was the son of John Lewarne (lead smelter, son of Sampson Lewarne and Susannah (Rouse)) and Louisa (Oliver) who were married at St Austell (bride’s home) 8 September 1838. He died in 1947.

This John son of Sampson and Suzanna was the brother of Mary, my great-great-grandmother but the records at Feock are damaged and the date of his baptism is indicated in the transcript as 1825/6, whereas it seems almost certain that he was baptized on 7 August 1821 with the 5 other siblings. He was buried at Feock 23 September 1877, aged 75, so born c. 1802.

Sampson Lewarne was baptized at Mawgan in Pydar on August 6, 1759, the son of Sampson Lewarne (who was perhaps the Sampson Lewarn baptized at Helston on November 5, 1717, the son of John Lewarn). Sampson Lewarn (senior)  married  Margaret Robarts at Mawgan in Pydar on December 31, 1752.
Sampson Lewarne (junior) and
Susanna Rouse were married at Feock on May 12, 1794. Susanna had been baptized there on February 16, 1772. At the 1841 Census, Sampson (78) and Susana (68) Lewarne were living in Feock Townsend, in the home of Susana's brother John Rouse (66) farmer. Sampson (not 'Samuel' as transcribed) was buried in Feock on September 18, 1843. Susanna was buried in Feock on July 8, 1847.

Another son of John Lewarne and Louisa was Thomas, baptized at Feock 27 December 1846. On 3 February 1869 he married Julia Bath at Feock and at the 1881 Census he was living at Trelissick working as a Groom. In 1871 he had been living at Porthgwidden as a Mariner. By the 1891 Census he seems to  have left England with his family.
