백운첩 The Baekun Album

In 1812, Dasan and Cho-ui Seonsa visited the garden in Baekundong (Gangjin) near Muwuisa Temple and composed a set of 12 poems which were bound together into an album which was discovered and translated by Professor Jeong Min, published in 2015.














가경 임신년(1812) 가을, 내가 다산에서 백운동으로 놀러 갔다가 하룻밤을 자고 돌아왔다.
남은 미련이 오래 지나도 가시지 않기에 승려 의순을 시켜서 「백운도」를 그리게 하고 이를 이어 12승사의 시를 지어서 주었다.
「다산도」를 붙여서 우열을 보인다. 9월 22일.

백운첩  시

서시 序詩
1.제1경:옥판봉 玉版峯 - 월출산 구정봉의 서남쪽 봉우리의 이름
2.제2경:산다경 山茶徑 -별서 정원에 들어가는 동백나무숲의 작은길
3.제3경:백매오 百梅塢 -바위언덕이에 심어둔 백그루의 홍매
4.제4경:홍옥폭 紅玉瀑 -단풍나무빛이 비친폭포의 홍옥같은 물방울
5.제5경:유상곡수 流觴曲水 -잔을 띄워 보잴수 있는 아홉굽이의 작은물길
6.제6경:창하벽 蒼霞壁 -붉은색의 글자가 있는 푸른빛 절벽
7.제7경:정유강 貞蕤岡 -용 비늘처럼 생긴 붉은 소나무가 있는 언덕
8.제8경:모란체 牡丹砌 -모란이 심어져 있는 돌계단의 화단
9.제9경:취미선방 翠微禪房 -산허리에 있는 꾸밈없고 고즈넉한 작은방
10.제10경:풍단 楓壇 -창하벽 위에 붉게물든 단풍나무가 심어진 단
11.제11경:정선대 停仙臺 -신선이 머물렀다는 옥판봉이 보이는 창하벽 위의 정자
12.제12경:운당원 篔簹園 -별서 뒤편의 늠름하게 하늘로 솟은 왕대나무



서시 序詩 寄題白雲洞李氏幽居

백운처사 숨어 사는 유정의 괘 얻으니,
임금께 헌책(獻策)함은 옳지 않다네.
십무(十畝)의 솔과 대로 땅의 이익 거두고,
반산(半山)의 누각에서 물소리를 베개 삼지.
풍류는 예원진(倪元鎭)만 못하지 않고,
명승은 고중영(顧仲瑛)에게 소문날 정도였네
상자 속에 남긴 글 그대로 있어,
세월이 흘러도 금쪽같은 맹세를 바꾸지않네.
白雲處士筮幽貞
獻策君門不稱情
十畝松篁收地利
半山樓閣枕溪聲
風流不減倪元鎭
名勝皆聞願仲瑛
爲有遺書在篋裏 
他年金石未渝盟

After having my fortune told by a scholar living hidden at Baekun,
it is not right to blame the King.
Reaping the benefits of the land, ten acres of forest and bamboo,
in a pavilion half-way up the mountain, the sound of water is my pillow.
My taste may not be as good as that of Ni Yuanzhen,
this scenic spot was well known to Gu Jung-Ying.
The message left in the box remains,
and even if time passes, I will not change my precious oath.




제1경:옥판봉 玉版峯 (다산)

내 예전 영산에 놀러와서는
옷깃 떨쳐 절정까지 오르려 했지



힘 빠져 능히 내려오지 못하고
해 지자 입은 옷이 너무 추웠네
사슴 가죽 깔개로 몸을 감사고
여러 시내 웅덩이를 건너왔었지
돌아와선 깊은 유감 품고 지내며
구슬피 구정봉만 올려다봤네
그럭저럭 하다보니 7년이 지나
수염 터럭 어는새 고기 사실세
굳이 묵은 소원을 풀고자 하여
이에 다시 선경에 거닐었다네
빙 둘러선 뭇 봉우리 고운 빛깔이
목을 길게 빼고서 나를 보는듯
뭇 신선 티끌 깨끗히 씻고
단정하게 옥홀을 들고 섰는듯.
빼어난 기운 푸른 옥색 맑기도 하고
엷은 구름 맑은 그림자 머금었구나
우러러 바라보니 기쁜맘 들어
수고로이 다리 시게 걷지 않았네
이제야 알겠네 예전 오를 때
거칠게 기운만 부려댄 줄을
산인은 산 위로 오르지 않고
가만 앉아 마음이 고요하다네.

When I came to visit old Yeongsan mountain,
I shook my clothes and prepared to climb to the peak.
I was so weak that I couldn't come down,
while the clothes I wore were too cold when the sun set.
We wrapped ourselves in deerskin rugs
and crossed many streams.
When I returned, I spent my days with deep regret
and only looked up at Gujeongbong Peak.
Time passed and after 7 years,
I was frozen with a beard stubble.
In order to resolve an old wish,
I wandered around the fairyland again.
The beautiful colors of the peaks surrounding it
seemed to be looking at me with their necks stretched out,
as if they had washed themselves clean of any dust
and stood neatly holding jade scepters.
The outstanding energy is clear,
the color jade blue, and the thin clouds have clear shadows.
When I looked up, I felt happy
and my legs didn't get sore after all the hard work.
Now I understand that in the past, when I climbed the mountain,
I used to be rough and energetic, so now
instead of climbing the mountain, I sit still and my mind is calm.



제2경:산다경 山茶徑 (다산)

언덕을 끼고 심은 동백나무가
이제는 길 가득 그늘 만드네
가지마다 꽃 보숭이 맺혀 있으니
세한의 마음을 남겨둔 걸세
夾岸油茶樹
今成滿路陰
頭頭結蓓蕾
留作歲寒心

Camellia trees planted along the hill
now fill the road with shade.
Every branch is full of flowers,
I have left winter’s cold heart behind.


제3경:백매오 百梅塢 (다산)

집 둘레에 층층 바위 아주 푸른데
백 그루 홍매화 나무 가꾸네
산 빛 어린 속에서 오가노라면
온동 모두 암향 속에 있는 것 같아.
帀屋層嵒翠
栽花百本紅
往來山色裡
都在暗香中
The layered rocks around the house are very green.
I take care of a hundred red plum trees.
As I come and go in the mountain light
It seems the whole place is immersed in perfume.


제4경:홍옥폭 紅玉瀑 (조의)

천봉에 빗방울 쏟아지더니
냇물이 백 갈래로 갈리어 난다.
온통 단풍나무 속을 따라서
죽정 앞을 부딪히며 지나가누나.
快瀉千峯雨
分飛百道泉
都從楓樹裏
衡過竹亭前
Raindrops pour down on a thousand buds,
the stream splits into a hundred branches.
Making my way among maple trees
I happen to pass in front of a bamboo pavilion.
















제5경:유상곡수 流觴曲水 (다산)

담장 뚫고 여섯 굽이 흐르는 물이
고개 돌려 담장 밖을 다시 나간다.
어쩌다 온 두세 분 손님이 있어
편히 앉아 술잔을 함께 띄우네
六曲아墻水
回頭復出墻
偶來三兩客
閒坐共流觴
Water flowing in six curves through the fence
changes its mind and goes outside the fence again.
There are two or three guests who happened to come.
so let’s sit comfortably and drink together.


제6경:창하벽 蒼霞壁 (초의)

틀림없이 바람이 도끼로 깎아.
그 틈으로 비 이끼가 스며든 게지.
바위에 새긴 글씨 없음 아쉬워.
붉은 빛깔 큰 글자를 써두었다네.
定是風斤斲
從他雨蘚渝?
惜無岣嶁刻
大字染猩朱
No doubt the wind cut it with its axe.
Rain and moss have seeped through the cracks.
It's a shame there's no writing carved on the rock.
I wrote in big red letters.


제7경:정유강 貞蕤岡 (다산)

천 길 되는 붉은 비늘 나무가 있어.
빈산에 고요히 그림자 길다.
저절로 삼뢰(三籟)의 소리가 나서.
이따금 정자 절반 시원케 한다
千尺紅鱗樹
山空靜影長
自生三籟韻
時作半樓凉
There is a red scale tree a thousand feet long.
The shadows are long and quiet on the empty mountain.
A loud sound of thunder rings out.
Soon the pavilion is much cooler


제8경:모란체 牡丹砌 (다산)

산 사람 색보에 조예가 깊어
호걸에게 양보하길 즐기질 않지
그루를 나누는 법 하마 익숙해
작약 캐는 수고로움 아예 없겠네
山人深色譜
不肯讓時豪
巳貫分株法
仍無採藥勞
Mountain dwellers have a deep knowledge of colors.
They don't enjoy giving in to heroes.
They are used to sharing pine trees,
no need to go to the trouble of digging up peonies.


제9경:취미선방 翠微禪房 (다산)

담장과 섬돌 빛깔 한 줄 흔적이
푸르른 삼 빛을 점찍어 깬다.
여태도 세 그루 나무 있으니
예전부터 좁은 집에 살던 것일세
一痕墻砌色
點破碧山光
尙有三株樹
曾樓十笏房
A trace of color on walls and stepping stones
break the blue hempen light.
There are still three trees left,
I must have been living in this small house for a long time.


제10경:풍단 楓壇 (초의)

금곡의 번화한 숲 그 옛날에 심은것
붉은 비단 가림막이 양편으로 열려 있네.
냇가 임한 죽각은 어느해에 부서졌나
그래서 서산에선 맑은 기운 밀려온다
金谷繁華昔年栽
紅羅步障兩邊開
臨溪竹閣何年破
猶有西山爽氣來
In Geumgok’s thriving forest planted long ago
a red silk screen is open on both sides.
In what year did the bamboo near the stream break?
That’s why pure energy flows from the western hill.


제11경:정선대 停仙臺 (다산)

집에 푸른 대숲이 뉘엿도 한데
담장에 담쟁이 붉은 가을이로다.
시험삼아 샛문의 밖을 따라서
바위 난간 머리까지 쉬엄 걸었지.

비에 씻겨 고운 뫼 모습 나오고
해묵은 관목들도 그윽하여라
경영함을 기록 남겨 보인다 하면
장취원이 한가로운 근심 품을 듯
院碧篁林晩
牆紅薜茘秋
試從圭竇外
徐步石欄頭

雨洗娟峯出
年深灌木幽
經營見若志
將就抱閒愁
There is a green bamboo grove by my house
and the ivy on the wall is red in autumn.
I attempted to stroll outside the gate,
walked slowly to the end of the rock ledge.

Washed by the rain, it all looks beautiful,
even the old shrubs are gentle.
If you keep records of your management,
Jang Chu-won seems to have leisurely worries.


제12경:운당원 篔簹園 (윤동)

그대 백운동의 운당원을 못 보았나
깍은 옥이 빽빽하게 구름 뿌릴 뚫었다네.
하늘 위로 80척을 곧바로 솟아올라
옥정봉 머릿돌을 굽어보아 살피고
옥골이 반들반들 사람 얼굴 비추니
사방의 구경꾼들 처음 보곤 놀란다네.
탐진의 구실아치 불충을 탄식노니
이 대나무 공물로 충당하지 아니하네
애꿏게,시골집의 비쩍 마른 대를 취해
역마가 먼지 날리며 왕궁으로 드는구나
君不見白雲洞裏篔簹군불견
琅玕矗矗穿雲根
直上靑霄八十尺
俯視玉井峯頭石
玉骨磨瑩照人面
四方觀者驚初見
耽津小吏嗟不忠
此物不令貢額充
枉取村家自枯竹
驛馬飛塵入王宮
Have you not seen Baekundong's Undangwon?
Cut jade pierced the dense clouds,
soaring 80 feet straight into the sky
and looking down at the headstone of Okjeongbong Peak.
Jade hues shine brightly on people’s faces.
Onlookers everywhere are surprised when they see it for the first time.
I lament over Tamjin’s magistrate's disloyalty..
This bamboo offering is not enough
so innocently taking a dried bamboo from my country house
a post-horse goes flying into the palace, sending dust flying.
